We have officially been accepted by our agency to adopt a child from the People's Republic of China. We are requesting to adopt a girl from the waiting child list. We still have a long ways to go. Our next step is:

1. get a homestudy update (original was for our now defunct domestic adoption -- long story about why we changed to international)
2. file our I-800A
3. get fingerprinted by CIS
4. get approval of I-800A

So what's a waiting child? A waiting child is a child who may be older or has a special condition. Often, older children are completely healthy but just need a family. The younger children have a wide variety of special conditions, from prematurity, club feet, heart defect, Down's Syndrome, and cerebral palsy. Since I'm a pediatric nurse, we're open to a wide range of special conditions. We have one of the best pediatric hospitals here in LR and I work for them! So, this really is exciting for us.
